Hello everyone!
I hope April is treating you all well. We’ve been fortunate to have some cooler weather in Florida, but summer is upon us as it is heating up in a hurry. As for me, I’ve been busy, busy finishing up my next book, The Love Doctor. I’m hoping for a May release, but more details will be available soon, including a look at the cover.
Unfortunately, I won’t be at ClexaCon this year, but I look forward to hearing all about it on Twitter and such. Hope you all have a fabulous time. On the up side, I will be hitting Avengers opening weekend and I cannot wait! I may even skip work and see it opening show. Shhhhh!
This month, I decided to steal a page from Clare Lydon’s newsletter and give you the bullet points of my life at the moment.
Cups of coffee:
None. It’s not my thing, but I do like the flavor and have a coffee flavored-protein shake. I don’t do much caffeine though. I guess I’m just naturally peppy. My wife doesn’t understand that at all.
Steps:
I don’t know. My Fitbit broke (again) and I’m not much into apps on the phone. I did, however, get back into workouts and made it to 1300 steps on the step machine. Woot!
Important stuff:
I was excited to celebrate International Whiskey Day (March 27) with an Old Fashioned made with Buffalo Trace (a rarity in my parts) thanks to the dedication of Amanda Brady, who had so very graciously hand delivered it during her trip to Florida. Thanks a billion!
Random Musings:
In my first 44 years of life, I still haven’t figured out how to fold a fitted sheet (much to my wife’s dismay) and I’ve decided I don’t care. The second half of my life shall be dedicated to figuring out how to make a proper crepe.
Deep thoughts:
My wife and will celebrate 22 years together next month and she still insists I’m hard to please. I disagree. I eat cold leftovers, am always easily entertained by chocolate of Florida Gator sports, don’t care how the clothes get folded (or fitted sheets), and can easily find something to watch on a streaming site. Easy enough to me. Still, she sticks around, so I guess none of them are deal breakers. Whew!
That’s enough about me. Now, on to the fun stuff.
INTERVIEW TIME!
This month I have the pleasure of interviewing two-time Goldie Award finalist and dapper dresser, M. Ullrich. She has penned five romance novels and been featured in The Advocate where she talks about her book, Love at Last Call. I just finished reading Fake It Till You Make It and highly recommend her work, so take one for a spin this weekend!
Hello, and thank you for taking the time to answer a few burning questions. First, I have to say I love your sense of style. What’s your favorite clothing store and where do you find those great blazers?
First and foremost, thank you for asking me to do this AND the compliment! I love fashion and putting together an outfit I feel good and confident in. I do most of my shopping at Express, and recently at Hollister. Some of my blazers came from Target. I’m always on the look out for clothes that fit me well, and catch my eye.
I’ve read fanfiction was one of the things that drew you to writing. Which fandom was it? Did you write any?
Rizzoli & Isles! I shipped Rizzles so hard from day one. I wrote about nine different works for that fandom and they are all still out there on fanfiction.net. I recently went back to look at them and it’s interesting to see the way my skill and craft changed along the way. Sometimes I think about taking them down, but I know they brought many people joy so I’ll leave them there for as long as the website is up and running.
Captain Marvel was marvelous (sorry, couldn’t help myself). What would you do if you had her powers?
Never, ever struggle to open a jam jar again. Never be afraid to walk alone in a dark parking lot again. And I would do whatever I could to use those powers to better this world.
Like you, I struggle to find time to write around work and life. What is your writing process like when you do sit down?
I do most of my writing on the weekends, so I stuff myself with an enormous amount of breakfast foods, sit down, and hope for the best. Coffee is a must, and some sort of candy/snack, too.
What’s most frustrating to you about the Wynonna Earp situation?
Everything! We were promised a 4th season and now we’re just in limbo. There’s no news, no updates, and the cast is just as eager to get started as we are to see them report to set. And now we’re seeing shows like “One Day At a Time” being cancelled…all we can do is keep fighting.
What’s your all-time fav fandom and what drew you in?
Wynonna Earp and the Earpers. Without a doubt. Aside from the show being clever, funny, heartfelt, inclusive, and just freaking rad, Earpers are the kindest and most genuine people. It’s a family.
What books are you currently reading?
I wish I had more time to read! I find it very difficult to read while I’m writing, and I’m almost always working on my next book. I just recently had a break between books, but I was working on a screenplay and in that headspace. I do have a list of titles I’m hoping to tackle soon-ish.
Is there a genre you haven’t tackled yet that you’d like to take a shot at?
My books will always be a romance at heart, but I do like to toy with sub-genres. I haven’t written anything in the crime/mystery category, but maybe one day…
Tell us about your latest release.
Pretending in Paradise is a fake relationship romance with just the right amount of opposites attract. Caroline Beckett is recently hired at Travel Wisdom, a one-stop travel site, and the home of brutally honest and popular reviewer/blogger, Emma Morgan. After an incident, Emma is only allowed to go on her next assignment If Caroline tags along. Things wouldn’t be so bad, if the next assignment wasn’t at a couples only resort that requires them to play the role of loving, happy couple.
I read you outgrew notebooks for you next book and bought a white board. Any hints on what it’s about? Also, is a whiteboard big enough? Maybe a wall board is in order?
This next book is TOP SECRET for now. But the whiteboard seems to be adequate, even though I’d definitely prefer wall board!
What’s the one thing you cannot live without? (food, item…)
Music. I’d have music playing every minute of every day if I could.
Any fun facts you care to share about yourself?
-I absolutely love the phrase “small potatoes”.
-When I’m very nervous I make strange noises and/or bad jokes. Nonstop. You should see me at doctor’s appointments or before a reading!
-I love watching sushi be made. It’s such a beautiful art form, but I don’t want to eat the stuff. No thank you.
-I’m superbly lazy. It’s almost a talent at this point.
-I start dreaming about my morning coffee in the afternoon the day before before.
-I’m not allowed to buy blue socks anymore.
